1. I would like to join your school. What do I do?

We recommend that you make a visit to our flying school at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Kota Bharu to view our aircraft and facilities, and meet with our instructors. Our instructors and course administrators will be delighted to guide you and answer all your queries. 2. What qualification do I need to join the course?

* Malaysian Student - SPM with 5 credits inclusive of English, Mathematics and one Science subject.
* Foreign Student - GCE 'O' level or equivalent with passes in similar subjects.
* Age - Minimum 18 years old.


3. What is the duration of the CPL/IR course?

* CPL/IR with Frozen ATPL for novice - A minimum of 60 weeks
* CPL/IR for PPL holders - A minimum of 48 weeks


4. Do I need to do the ATPL course?

Most countries require a pilot with ATPL to fly the airlines and some countries require only CPL/IR initially.


5. What are the licence requirement to join airlines? Where can I get information?

* You will require a minimum of a Commercial Pilot Licence with Instrument Rating (CPL/IR) or in some cases a minimum of an Airlines Transport Pilot Licence with Instrument Rating (ATPL).
* There are a lot of web resources on how to go about charting a career for yourself as an airlines pilot. You can also check out website of major airlines for more information.


6. For a CPL/IR licence, how many hours of flying do I need?

For the CPL/IR licence, a cadet pilot will require a minimum of 200 hours of flying. The flight training includes General Handling, Instrument Flying, Navigation and Night Flying, as per the UKCAA CAP 54 requirements.


7. What licence will I get upon completing this course?

Upon successful completion of the course, you will get the appropriate licence from DCA Malaysia, which is honoured by all ICAO signatory countries (since Malaysia is also an ICAO signatory).


8. Where do I get information on licences recognised by DCA Malaysia?

You will find more information at the official website of the Malaysian Department of Civil Aviation (www.dca.gov.my).


9. For the CPL/IR licence, what are the exams do I need to take?

The Examinations are classified under two Examination Paper Group headings: Group 1 (Navigation) and Group 2 (Aircraft):

* The Navigation group papers (Group 1) comprises the following:
- Flight Planning
- Navigation
- Instruments
- Radio Aids
- Meteorology Theory
- Meteorology Practical

* The Navigation Associated Papers are:
- Aviation Law, Flight Rules & Procedures, Paper 1
- Aviation Law, Flight Rules & Procedures, Paper 2


* The Aircraft Technical Papers (Group 2) comprises the following:
- Theory of Flight
- Flying Controls
- Engines
- Electrics
- Airframe System

* The Aircraft Technical Associated Papers are:
- Aircraft Performance ‘A'
- Loading
- Aircraft (Type)
- Human Performance & Limitations
- Radio Telephony


10. Apart from the ground school and flying licence, what diploma will I get after completing the course?

As APFT is an IPTS, students will be awarded the additional Diploma in Aviation (Pilot Training).


11. Is there a maximum age limit for CPL/IR course?

There is no age limit for taking this course. However, the licence is valid up to the age of 65.


12. What if I need glasses?

It is not a problem if you wear glasses and will not affect your chances for entry into airlines.


13. What about colour blindness?

Those with colour blindness can still obtain a Private Pilot Licence/Commercial Pilot Licence. However, colour blindness may be an obstacle for entry into major airlines. There are still many other career opportunities available. Contact the airlines directly to be certain of their requirements.


14. How fit must I be to qualify for a Malaysian Licence?


Only medical examiners who are designated and authorised by the Department of Civil Aviation, Malaysia can conduct the aircrew medical. [List of Medical Examiners].


15. If I already have my PPL from a flying club, can I continue my CPL in your school?

Yes, provided you get an approval letter from DCA Malaysia, recognising your PPL license. For further information, visit DCA Malaysia (www.dca.gov.my).


16. If I have a CPL from overseas, can I join your school?
